0. Motivation
If we know the mini-cold front, which is a downdraft that sustains the rising air currents, we thought we could see how the strength of the supercell's rising air current changed.
1. Hypothesis
As the horizontal scale increases, the starting height of the downdraft will increases. This is because strong upward airflow develops and it strengthens the descending air again. The starting altitude of the descending air current is large, it can be considered that the size of the mini cold front is large.
2. Method
- Horizontal scale setting : 1) Basic scale : xyrad 10000 & zrad 1500
2) For large horizontal scale : xyrad 25000
3) For small horizontal scale : xyrad 5000
- Zrad is fixed
- Altitude setting : 1km, 2km, 3km, 4km, 5km, 6km, 7km, 8km
- First, we look for the time when the downdraft is most clear. It is 1hour 20minutes. (01:20:00)
- Second, in the time zone which we find in previous step, we find the altitude at which the descending airflow on the opposite side of the supercell's direction of travel is changed to the ascending airflow .
- Additionally, in order to check the exact value, we find the z-wind value at that altitude and make graph(or table).
